Information the service stores
Accounts contain your display name, email address, verification state and a password hash. Sessions use necessary authentication cookies and may record an IP address and browser user agent. Two-factor secrets and recovery codes are protected by the authentication service. We also store your comments, votes, corrections, reports, appeals and the decisions associated with them.
Public and private information
Your display name and approved contributions are public. Email addresses, authentication records, reports and moderation queues are restricted to authorised account owners or staff. Source links take you to third-party services; licensed remote images may reveal your IP address to their host when loaded. The map dataset is served locally. Optional usage statistics count page views and source interactions without storing user IDs, IP addresses or visitor cookies; event rows are cleared after 90 days.
Optional error monitoring
When configured, Sentry receives sanitised application errors to help diagnose failures. We disable collection of user details, cookies, request bodies, headers, URL queries and database values. Private account and editorial routes are excluded, and error messages and extra context are removed before sending. Session replay and transaction tracing are not enabled. Monitoring is inactive when no reporting destination is configured.
Purpose and retention
Account data supports sign-in, abuse prevention and contribution review. Sourced claims and editorial decisions are retained to preserve the evidence history. Deleting an account removes credentials, sessions, votes and reactions, removes public comment text and anonymises its profile. Source evidence and correction history may remain linked to an anonymous contributor; avoid including personal information in evidence submissions. Backups may retain earlier records until their retention period expires.
Your controls
Choosing light or dark mode saves a first-party preference cookie for one year. It contains only the selected theme and is not used for tracking. Fonts and brand assets are served from this website.
Use your account page to download an export or request account deletion. Staff accounts require a responsibility transfer before deletion. This development service uses necessary authentication storage and does not install advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
